Patch Set 9:

Made a trivial change to the commit message to align the bullet points near the bottom. Aside from that, I think we've stared at this long enough. I sanity checked "make", "make export", and getrevision.sh output. The hooks seem to be working properly (but then, they seemed to work properly when there was a missing "fi" so...).

Anyway, I think we can commit this and follow-up with any fixes or tweaks as we get more people using/testing it.
