openbiosprog-spi - Open Hardware / Free Software USB-based SPI chip programmer

Hi, just a quick announcement I totally forgot to send out to the probably most relevant places (coreboot + flashrom) about a little hardware project I have finished a while ago: openbiosprog-spi. It's a USB-based SPI chip flasher hardware based on the FTDI FT2232H chip, all the gory details (including lots of photos) are at: http://randomprojects.org/wiki/Openbiosprog-spi http://hermann-uwe.de/blog/openbiosprog-spi-a-diy-open-hardware-and-free-so… The device is already supported by flashrom out of the box. It has a small DIP-8 socket to allow flashing DIP-8 SPI chips from newer mainboards externally (if they're in a socket). As an alternative you can also solder an 8-pin pin-header instead of the socket in order to connect to a soldered SO-8 chip on a mainboard directly using some wires. The hardware schematics and layouts were done using the open-source Kicad suite and they're CC-BY-SA 3.0 licensed. Hello, hope the email address used is the correct one for this kind of purpose. I am trying to copy my current BIOS flash content into a new flash chip on Tyan s2895 motherboard. I can read the content of actual SST flash chip, but cannot write in a new Winbond flash chip. So i have two questions for you: - Is the content of the file "BIOS_ver106_Tyan_Thunder_K8WE_on_SST-49FL080A_dump_with_flashrom_Vr.bin" a valid BIOS dump (BIOS version 106) ? - Is the winbond chip i used supported ? (W39V080FAPZ_4521872002_620LDFA) or may be is the flash chip already dead ? (could be possible, i dont know) I attached all information that may be usefull for you. Successful flash of Powerspec 8731

Hi, I was successfully able to probe, read, erase, and write the Powerspec 8731 machine I have (temporarily anyway). I can't remember where the manufacturer BIOS updates are (not the same place as the drivers), so I just read the current BIOS, erased it, and then wrote it back successfully. If this isn't sufficient, please tell me and I'll track down an actual BIOS update instead.
