Alex Yeah, except Intel's tools only support ROM images generated by Intel and stored in their magic file format. You can't use them to flash your own custom images. You can only do that with flashrom. :) The problem here is that flashrom has to know the flash programming interface used on the NIC, and sadly they aren't all the same. When I tried it, I used an 82574L card. At the time it was not supported. However, the 82574 uses the same programming interface as the 82571, which _was_ supported, so making it work was just a matter of adding the 82574's device ID to the right table in flashrom. You can attempt to do the same thing with the i210, but I don't know offhand if that will work. Thanks Alex and I've tried BootUtil - but no luck. I've read the discription of BootUtil thanks to your link and found an important article: " * BootUtil is not intended as a utility for LAN-On-Motherboard (LOM) implementations. Adjustments made to BootROM settings on LOM implementations may not affect how the adapter operates. " And well this nic which i was trying to flash is a LOM. So i guess there will be no chance to flash it. You have to be much more specific with your question, otherwise the answer is simply: the source code explains everything in detail. Nico

Some troubles connecting a W25X40ALSNIG flash chip to raspberry pi (v3 model B)

Hey, I'm trying to read from and flash to a W25X40ALSNIG [0] that's still mounted to its hard drive PCB. Following the table from the raspberry pi wiki page [1], and assuming the raspberry pi pin numbers it mentions are physical pin numbers (and not the pi's strange GPIO numbering scheme) I connected the legs of the flash chip to the raspberry pi's GPIO pins. However, when the two are attached, the pi won't boot (it'll show the three raspberries in the corner, then it shuts off). I've isolated this to the VCC (connected to header 17, 3v3) and GND (connected to header 25, GND) , where having all of the legs of the flash chip detached from the pi except for those two will reproduce my problem (I hope testing that didn't actually kill the chip). Building on Windows with mingw

Hello all, I have tried to build the flashrom with mingw on Windows, but the build process fails with: flash.h:336:1: error: '__MINGW_PRINTF_FORMAT' is an unrecognized format function type [-Werror=format=] __attribute__((format(__MINGW_PRINTF_FORMAT, 2, 3))); I have checked the stdio.h shipped with the mingw installation, but it does not contains the __MINGW_PRINTF_FORMAT macro. I have used the latest available mingw-get-setup, because the 20110530 version (which mentioned in the wiki as known t obe working) segfaults when I select the MSYS Basic System feature. I can build with WARNERROR=no, but some more permanent fix recommentation would be warmly welcome! -- Best regards, Miklos Marton

Why you don't connect it directly to the pi? Tow things you can try: 1. Try to read the chip with this parameter: "flashrom -V -p linux_spi:dev=/dev/spidev0.0,spispeed=30000" 2.
