How long did you wait (not that a single page write should take a lot of time...)? As far as I can tell the code is correct and matching the datasheet. A "freeze" at that point of the process is probably due to the chip continuously reporting "work in progress" via the WIP bit in the status register. flashrom just keeps waiting for a ready signal and therefore seems to be frozen, but it is actually an endless loop (if the chip does not become idle again). We do have a patch for that I think, but that would just abort after a timeout which would not help you further. I have no advice or further help to offer at the moment, sorry.
