Just upgraded my BIOS with success (v2.8 -> v2.9) using --force.
No warnings, no problems, rebooting ok, bios confirms new version.

  writing  (with --force)

untested as an isolated operation (but works as part of writing):

Thanks for your report!
I have marked the motherboard as tested and will commit that later.
i will also talk to the responsible developer about the current state
of the nvidia chipset(s), so that we can remove or at least refine the
message that caused some misunderstanding on your side.

after talking to carl-daniel i have enabled writing on the affected
chipsets and modified the message:
