thanks a lot. i can remember that i was distracted a lot while i have
done those bits, sorry for stealing your time!

please test the attached patch to be applied on top of the last patch
set (i.e. 4.2).
i don't have an idea about the 0x3a97c timeout yet, but maybe we can
get new insights with correct error messages...

For those who missed the excitement on IRC, I was able to successfully read
the SPI flash using hardware sequencing after applying the fixup patch.
Erase and writes are still a work in progress, but I think getting reads
working is a significant milestone nevertheless.
