If you are using the stable/release version: yes, if you are using a build based on subversion code you can use "-p internal:this_is_not_a_laptop".
idwer: -p internal:this_is_not_a_laptop is wrong. it should be -p internal:laptop=this_is_not_a_laptop imo.
chris: -p internal:laptop=force_I_want_a_brick should work in any case, so please use that one.
if you are using the parameter correctly it should show:
[…] You have been warned. ======================================================================== Proceeding anyway because user forced us to. […]
if not you are doing it wrong and should post the exact command you are executing please.
I think it worked! Donation on its way.

You may be running flashrom on an unsupported laptop. We could not detect this for sure because your vendor has not setup the SMBIOS tables correctly. You can enforce execution by adding '-p internal:laptop=force_I_want_a_brick' to the command line, but please read the following warning if you are not sure.
Laptops, notebooks and netbooks are difficult to support and we recommend to use the vendor flashing utility. The embedded controller (EC) in these machines often interacts badly with flashing. See http://www.flashrom.org/Laptops for details.
If flash is shared with the EC, erase is guaranteed to brick your laptop and write may brick your laptop. Read and probe may irritate your EC and cause fan failure, backlight failure and sudden poweroff.
You have been warned. ======================================================================== Proceeding anyway because user specified laptop=force_I_want_a_brick Found chipset "Intel ICH7/ICH7R" with PCI ID 8086:27b8. if I am correct, the update probably changed some settings of your BIOS and therefore the checksum of these setting does not match the one saved by the BIOS before.
Just hit F1 or F2 when booting to enter the BIOS menu and load the default settings and save that. The checksum should be rewritten now and hopefully the error will be gone.
Thanks,
Paul
PS: By the way, are you subscribed to the list? Then putting you in CC in the future will not be necessary. Using Thunderbird you should have a reply to list feature you can use [1].

This is quite normal. It should either be gone automatically on further boots or after you have saved the BIOS settings as Paul explained.
I have added the P5L-VM 1394 board to our list of supported boards (I believe that the hardware is identical and only the DMI strings of some versions of the firmware have the barebone name as suffix) and will commit that later with other small changes.
Hi Stefan and Idwer, Thanks, it's fine now, donation on it's way. Thankyou so much for all your help and for answering so swiftly! I really need my computer up and running in the next few days since I am starting a COMP TIA A+ course in computer maintenance etc. Thankyou for getting my computer flashed and working properly again. Kindest Regards, Chris :-)))
