It does but probably in the 0x00005000-0x0050ffff range as written in the flash descriptor (and shown by flashrom). This is pretty much self-contained and should remain in a working condition if you leave it alone and just tamper with the BIOS region.
I have been using a layout file but only flashing the bootblock at 0xff000 to 0xffffff.
