trying to fix dead motherboard after failed bios update. flashrom found chip but it is stuck on "reading old flash chip contents..."
just hung, won't go any further, or error out. Does this mean my bios chip is fried?

most probably you are just too impatient. please tell us more about your setup, especially which programmer you are using. if possible please post the output of a probe for the chip only in verbose mode.
