flashrom in a Toshiba notebook

Hi, I have a Toshiba Satellite A100 notebook and when I run flashrom with the following command line: sudo flashrom I get the verbose of the chipset and bios found, but a second later it shuts down When I use the following command line: sudo flashrom -f -r a100.bin -c SST39VF080 it prints the message but in this case it does not power off. flashrom v0.9.1-r706 No coreboot table found. Found chipset "Intel ICH6-M", enabling flash write... OK. This chipset supports the following protocols: Non-SPI. Calibrating delay loop... OK. No EEPROM/flash device found. Force read (-f -r -c) requested, forcing chip probe success: Found chip "SST SST39VF080" (1024 KB, Parallel) at physical address 0xfff00000. Please note that forced reads most likely contain garbage. Reading flash... done. I would like to report that the bios file read with flashrom was the same that I write with the program provided by Toshiba. Thank you. Regards, Luciano Diamand

--force may have been a good idea back when only developers were using flashrom, but over the last few months I've seen too many people who incorrectly believed that --force would solve anything. One of the problems is that --force has multiple meanings: - Force chip read by faking probe success. - Force writing even if cbtable tells us that this is the wrong image for this board. - Force chip access even if the chip is bigger than max decode size for the flash bus. - Force erase even if erase is known bad. - Force write even if write is known bad. We should kill --force and replace it with explicit --force-erase or --force-cbtable-mismatch or similar stuff, maybe -p internal:ignore_cbtable. First step: - Remove any suggestions to use --force for probe/read from flashrom output. - Don't talk about "success" or "Found chip" if the chip is forced. This overrides any mismatch detection from cbtable/image comparisons. - Add a new internal programmer parameter laptop=force_I_want_a_brick. - Adjust the documentation for --force. - Clean up the man page a bit whereever it talks about --force or laptops. Additional changes in this patch: - Add warnings about laptops to the documentation. - Abort if a laptop is detected. Can be overridden with the programmer parameter mentioned above. - Add "Portable" to the list of DMI strings indicating laptops. - Check if a chip specified with -c is known to flashrom. - Programmer parameter reliability and consistency fixes. - More paranoid self-checks. - Improve documentation. [feature-request] skip the unwanted sections in ROM layout

Hi flashrom designers, >From the handle_romentries() function, I know the current design for "--layout" and "--image" is to read the unwanted sections from the flashchip to a buffer and then write the whole buffer back to the flashchip. For some reasons, I don't want to touch the unwanted sections in the flashchip. Can flashrom just skip them? My platform is "Intel ICH10R" and "Atmel AT25DF321". Thank you. Water

Hi, as we found out in IRC yesterday, flashrom needs boardenable code to function for the Sun Fire v40z mainboard. I attached the output of # flashrom -V &> flashrom.txt # superiotool -deV &> superiotool.txt # lspci -nnvvvxxx &> lspci.tx flashrom and superiotool were checked out from svn. The official Bios download is a bit tricky as you need a Sun Premium account to access it :-/ Anyway, here is the link: http://www.sun.com/servers/entry/v40z/downloads.jsp If you don't have such an account and need the Bios, send me a note. Documentation however is freely available under [1] (the "Sun Fire v40z Server Architectural Whitepaper" may be of interest) and [2] (see "Full Components List" and "Related Documentation").
