Your boot block is write protected. Flashrom can not erase it. The remaining parts of the chips have been erased. DO NOT REBOOT!
hp vectra vl 400 trying to update to latest version bios to version 1.08 form 1.03
i backed up the original bios version1.03
using this line sudo flashrom -r original.rom
Get *latest* flashrom source first (this means *at* *least* r1224, the latest release "0.9.3" is just r1204 and not new enough), and then use "flashrom -w original.rom". This should be able to fixup the mess. I can't tell whether the boot block lock can be removed by software or is a hardware thing. If you are lucky, the boot blocks are identical in the files and current flashrom just skips reprogramming the boot block even with the new file.
Further analysis of the BIOS would be needed to find out whether it is OK to skip the boot block if they are different.
