Hello Ben,
I've been looking at your mail again and what looked like a hardware failure first, obviously isn't:
Some block protection in effect, disabling... Block protection could not be disabled!
(Alas, error messages can somehow be missed in verbose logs...) This is likely caused by a wrong state on a /WP pin. It should be high, deasser- ted.
