Hi, I was successfully able to probe, read, erase, and write the Powerspec 8731 machine I have (temporarily anyway). I can't remember where the manufacturer BIOS updates are (not the same place as the drivers), so I just read the current BIOS, erased it, and then wrote it back successfully. If this isn't sufficient, please tell me and I'll track down an actual BIOS update instead.
