Path syntax for Linux Flashrom?

I've found lots of helpful info on using Flashrom for updating an HP xw9400 BIOS using an Ubuntu Live DVD, but the commands never seem to include any path information! For example: flashrom -r biosbackup.rom flashrom -E flashrom -w 7D6_0403.bin In the first and third lines, where does Flashrom assume the files are located if no path is supplied? If I install a floppy to read/write to, what is the path syntax? About the Ubuntu Live DVD, could someone add a little more info to these cryptic instructions to install Flashrom (is this multiple steps)? install flashrom (open a terminal from the start menu, do sudo su) using apt-get install flashrom Thanks!

Flashrom is just one of many programs which run on many distributions and variety of operating systems, therefore it is not practical to go that deep into details about the OS's package management. That is something you'll need to learn on your own. There's a non-zero chance that something will go horribly wrong when you run flashrom and you'll need to do something to recover. Hi, Someone had already reverse engineered the protocol and created an SPI flasher tool for that: https://github.com/setarcos/ch341prog Using this code it won't be a big issue to add flashrom support. user question about the ITE IT8518E SuperIO / EC

Hello flashrom / coreboot / lm_sensors team I'm not even completely sure if I am on the correct mailinglist for my question so please excuse if I asked in the wrong category. Well, my question is quite generic. I have a laptop here which would in theory be very fine for Coreboot with a freedom OS. It's a HP 635. It's based mainly on AMD tech (E-350, A50M chipset or something close to that), Realtek (NIC, card reader) and Atheros (wireless) components. So kind of everything works. Well. Nearly. You know, there was some sort of chips, that never really cause me trouble in the past. They were there and would just always work: The Super IO chips. ITE, Fintek, Winbond, whatever. But now there is this ITE IT8518E Super IO (correctly it's an EC) which just won't seem to have a driver or documentation. HP wasn't really of help here as far as I reached anyone there. ITE was slow to respond and I don't how if I can just ask them "hey, it would be nice to have specs for writing a freedom driver for the Linux (BSD/whatever) kernel / lm_sensors and have it supported for flashrom / coreboot". Especially since I am no code hacker, I'm one of those strange users. ;) Without support for that chip there likely won't be any flashrom and thus no coreboot, right? That would be sad since otherwise the box is very suitable and fairly well equipped for the price (also has a non glare screen). I can provide you with a bunch of outputs from flashrom, superiotool, lm_sensors, lspci, lshw, dmidecode, acpidump and whatsnot if that is of help. Greetings and have nice week Haldor

Hi Stefan, thanks for your help! I have updated with those packages and now I can recognize the chip. However, I have an issue while trying to write the flash, here is the basic output: Calibrating delay loop... OK. Found PMC flash chip "Pm25LD512(C)" (64 kB, SPI) on ft2232_spi. Block protection could not be disabled! Reading old flash chip contents... done. Erasing and writing flash chip... and never progress. Moreover, no signals are present on the PINs and this is a part of the verbose output: Found PMC flash chip "Pm25LD512(C)" (64 kB, SPI). Some block protection in effect, disabling... Block protection could not be disabled! Chip status register is 0x20. Chip status register: Status Register Write Disable (SRWD, SRP, ...) is not set Chip status register: Bit 6 is not set Chip status register: Bit 5 is set Chip status register: Block Protect 2 (BP2) is not set Chip status register: Block Protect 1 (BP1) is not set Chip status register: Block Protect 0 (BP0) is not set Chip status register: Write Enable Latch (WEL) is not set Chip status register: Write In Progress (WIP/BUSY) is not set Reading old flash chip contents... done. Support for ENE KB9012QF A3

Hello, I would like to request flashrom support for the ENE KB9012QF A3 chip. This chip has 128KB of internal flash memory that can be accessed through the SPI interface. The data sheet for this chip can be found at the following URL http://www.s-manuals.com/pdf/datasheet/k/b/kb9012_r0.9_ene.pdf The relevant section starts on page 218. I was able to read the contents of the chip using the SPI bus on my Raspberry pi, but unfortunately, I lack the skills to write to the chip. There is very little documentation on the write command, and I was unable to get it working in my tests. Thank you for your consideration.
