First release candidate for 1.3 is tagged as v1.3.0-rc1

Hello fashrom community, Great news! As subject says: first release candidate for 1.3 is tagged as v1.3.0-rc1 The main thing that will be happening with RC1 now is testing. Few notes about testing and/or using flashrom built from v1.3.0-rc1. If you are a flashrom user who has never built flashrom from source code, and always used a packaged release version, please continue doing so for now. Release candidate is not a release yet, it is possible some bugs will be found in RC1 and we will have RC2 to fix those. Watch the mailing list for further announcements. If you are a developer and building flashrom from source is an acceptable level of risk for you (because you've done that before, tried new features from head before, have been developing / testing your own patches, or tried / tested patches from other people in community), then please feel free to use v1.3.0-rc1. Your help with testing and reporting bugs is highly appreciated! No test case is too small: even if you can run one specific scenario, it is an important contribution, and yes it helps! A special case of the above: if you are a developer and work in a company that is using flashrom: if you could contribute to testing v1.3.0-rc1 that would be really great! Perhaps (that's me "thinking aloud") it is possible to point an automated tests suite to v1.3.0-rc1 and run the tests? How to report a bug or successful testing: there are few options. First option is to post on the mailing list (feel free to reply on this thread, or create a new thread). Second option is to add a comment to a ticket "Testing for release v1.3" https://ticket.coreboot.org/issues/378. This would require an account in bugtracker (coreboot account is fine). Thirdly, of course, you can fix a bug and send a patch! :) Please set a topic "for_1.3.x" And finally, What's new since 1.2? We've done ~1000 commits in ~3 years! The full exact list of "what's new" is under construction, will be ready later :) Meanwhile, here is a very high-level unordered overview: meson support expanded, and documentation is added build systems improvements, for both of them new programmers added new chips added unit tests misc cleanups / refactorings removing global state / fixing memory leaks write-protect and write-protect emulation in dummyflasher MAINTAINERS file build script for jenkins upgraded flashrom_tester improvements manpage grew more info ... Two features dropped from release: promontory support displaying progress in libflashrom operations Due to the bugs that won't be possible to fix/test in time for 1.3. I have MB ASUS PRIME B550-PLUS root-> flashrom --programmer internal -r old.cap flashrom v1.2 on Linux 6.0.12-arch1-1 (x86_64) flashrom is free software, get the source code at https://flashrom.org Using clock_gettime for delay loops (clk_id: 1, resolution: 1ns). Found chipset "AMD FP4". Enabling flash write... Disabling read write protection of flash addresses from 0xfc000000 to 0xfc05ffff failed. Disabling read write protection of flash addresses from 0xfd000000 to 0xfd05ffff failed. Disabling read write protection of flash addresses from 0xfe000000 to 0xfe05ffff failed. Disabling read write protection of flash addresses from 0xff000000 to 0xff05ffff failed. FCH device found but SMBus revision 0x61 does not match known values. Please report this to flashrom(a)flashrom.org and include this log and the output of lspci -nnvx, thanks!. Could not determine chipset generation.PROBLEMS, continuing anyway No EEPROM/flash device found. Note: flashrom can never write if the flash chip isn't found automatically. UPDATE: The problem is partially resolved. I flashed the backup file without any errors. I rebooted and everything was fine. But still, I can't flash the new image. I think some sections of EEPROM are locked for writing (for example, the booting logo). Could it be? [announce] Semi Fork *flashrom-stable*

Hi folks, some of you might have heard already: We've set up a new repository [1] and mailing list [2] for *flashrom-stable*. It's not quite what I imagined. But given that it'll live in its own repository, this will most likely turn into an effective fork. Nevertheless, I'm rather happy that this work can happen on coreboot.org/flashrom.org. As the name suggests, the fork will focus on stability. We'll try to continue to provide a flashrom that avoids bricks as best as we can. With hopefully more regular releases and a steady development process. Repo and ML are still empty. I'll write more about the project goals and kicking-off development on the new ML this weekend. Don't worry if you miss anything, it'll be in the archives [3]. [announce] Point Releases v1.0.2-rc1, v1.1.1-rc1, v1.2.1-rc1

Hi flashrom folks, we've gathered some bugfixes over the years on our older release branches, and now prepared appropriate point releases. These are mostly useful to update older packages of stable OS distributions. As these branches are quite old, they'll probably not see any more updates afterwards. As usual, you can find the release candidates in a clone of our Git repository https://review.coreboot.org/flashrom.git or download a tarball [1]. If no further issues arise, these release candidates will turn into releases in about a week. Beside some added checks for invalid pointers, some corner cases were fixed in individual programmer drivers and we fixed compa- tibility with newer version of `libpci`. CH341 and W25Q80DV

Hello, I try to program W25Q80DV, but have issues. Before programming I read contents of chip, but file is not look to me good. Unfortunately I not pay enough attention on this fact. After unsuccessful first programming read chip again and contents of file was changed. After that I carefully check connection and found that some connection was not good. Attach probe one more time and have success on erase operation, but not on write. Currently chip is full with “FF”, but every try for writhing give me error. Exact chip model is Winbond 25Q80DVSIG and chip is soldered on Gigabyte GC-Titan Ridge board. I’m using image-assembling-programmer.png for programming. Strange for me is result for command > flashrom -p ch341a_spi -c W25Q80.V flashrom v1.2 on Darwin 20.6.0 (x86_64) flashrom is free software, get the source code at https://flashrom.org Calibrating delay loop... OK. No EEPROM/flash device found. Note: flashrom can never write if the flash chip isn't found automatically. But if I try command > flashrom -p ch341a_spi flashrom v1.2 on Darwin 20.6.0 (x86_64) flashrom is free software, get the source code at https://flashrom.org Calibrating delay loop... OK. Found Winbond flash chip "W25Q80.V" (1024 kB, SPI) on ch341a_spi. No operations were specified.
