80/100/132 column line width policy

Hi, we're hitting the 80 column limit in our code in ways which actually reduce readability for the code. Examples are various multiline messages and complicated nested code where refactoring to a separate function doesn't make sense. Keeping the old 80 column limit is not really an option anymore. Standard terminal sizes have one of 80, 100 or 132 columns. Given the monitor resolutions many people have nowadays, I think it is safe to say that you can fit two xterms with 100 columns horizonally next to each other. 100 columns should also be sufficient for a msg_p* of roughly 80 columns of text. 132 columns provide more leeway, but IMHO that would be too wide for good readability (and my screen can't fit two xterms side-by-side anymore). Of course some files have sections where any column limit is not acceptable (board lists etc.), but the column limit violations should be limited to the affected file sections, not whole files. Comments? I'd like to get this decided today or tomorrow so we know where we need line breaks in Stefan Tauner's new struct flashchip patch. Regards, Carl-Daniel -- http://www.hailfinger.org/

Getting inconsistent reads with a Raspberry Pi

Dear all, I'm trying to read a MX25L3206E and a MX25L6406E in-circuit (laptop) with a Raspberry Pi Rev.1 using a POMONA 5220 SOIC clip. flashrom v0.9.9-r1955 on Linux 4.9.35+ (armv6l) Unfortunately I keep getting images with varying md5sums. Moreover, when switching between the chips, flashrom always detects the chip it was last connected to (i.e. not the real one) and the MX25L6406E is not correctly detected at all in general (incorrectly detected as some other chip). If anyone knows those symptoms, I'd love to hear a comment! All external power sources are disconnected (incl. CMOS battery). The 3v3 of the Pi is used for powering. All 8 Pins were connected (incl. Hold and WP to 3v3). What I checked so far: - The factory images on the chips work. - SPI loopback on the Pi works (MISO <--> MOSI). - Cables are relatively short (tried 28cm and 2* that with a 10k Pullup on MISO - the latter didn't seem to change much, but I'm not 100% sure yet). - Reducing the clock speed didn't seem to make a difference (e.g. flashrom -p linux_spi:dev=/dev/spidev0.0,spispeed=1000 -r flash03.bin -c "MX25L3206E/MX25L3208E"). I didn't try yet: - external 3v3 PSU - laptop power (I actually connected the AC adapter once without booting, but it didn't seem to power the chip - I didn't measure 3v3) - putting a 22pF capacitor somewhere (I'm not sure where exactly?) - unsolder the chip - I'm trying to avoid that as I'm not good at that... Do you have any other ideas? Maybe I'm missing something obvious? I haven't done this for a few years, so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks & Kind Regards David

Hello, I managed to get to the end of the procedure for unsuccessful installation of libreboot because I didn't got the message when I was installing using the instructions from libreboot: Updated BUC.TS=1 - 64kb address ranges at 0xFFFE0000 and 0xFFFF0000 are swapped Now I got this message but at the end after running sudo ./flashrom/i686/flashrom_lenovobios_sst -p internal -r factory.bin - I got the correct output but it didn't ended with : Your flash chip is in an unknown state. But with: Good, writing to the flash chip apparently didn't do anything. - And some more text. Should I run the next suggested command: sudo ./flashrom/i686/flashrom_lenovobios_macronix -p internal -w coreboot.rom Also every other thing went well, the numbers matched. Also in the output 0x1f0000 matched. The other hex numbers I think are diffrerent for every system because I didn't get only 0x0. Please, suggest what can I do.
