Hello!

I have the 9IGLM motherboard with chipset Intel 845 GL.

Can I hope that that I can download and install some open BIOS firmware for my motherboard? Thanks!

Intel has not been too helpful with supporting open source firmware on their machines. LinuxBIOS (www.linuxbios.org) has support for quite some intel chipsets though: 82815ep 82830 82860 E7500 E7501 E7505

No 845GL support though it seems.
