Guys & Gals,
I have just printed the USENIX conference notes on LinuxBIOS, and skimming through it, I am impressed with what I see.
It would be a really good idea if a group of us were to write a new BIOS, (Mac-style), which was very similar to LinuxBIOS, but links in with Darwin (the MacOS-X Kernel).
If we can pull this one off, it will be a serious blow to Micro$oft. Some of the guys in Apple will love us, since we will have finally put the last stake into the heart of closed proprietory systems...
Let's do it folks.
All the best, Gavin.

Although shouldn't the BIOS have the necessary functions for a Win bootup? [please don't harm me for this consideration ;-) ]. Bye

Grrr...All right then. But I would much rather see it emulated 'within-a-window' rather than at BIOS. I'll think on it, buddy. d:-)
Namaste, Gav.

Looks like I misunderstood you there d:-(
By Win do you mean Win-doze? No offence buddy. Actually I have been thinking about it, and it looks to be a rather good idea. We could boot to Win-doze in effect, but not in reality.
Instead, we could boot to a Mac-style GUI. WOO-HOO!
Namaste, Gavin (now Founder of Zensufi Philosophy).
PS. Please call me Gavin; Garvin sounds cool, but it aint right somehow <|;-) - To unsubscribe: send mail to majordomo@freiburg.linux.de with 'unsubscribe openbios' in the body of the message

bootup is easy. You have to support the INT functions that microsoft uses. That would be cool if you did that.

You would REALLY like to modernize the BIOS API... It shouldn't be TOO hard to produce an updated IO.SYS/IBMBIO.SYS but then you have to worry about how drivers interract with the BIOS, and non-standard chipset configs...
