Intel has not been too helpful with supporting open source firmware on
their machines. LinuxBIOS (www.linuxbios.org) has support for quite some
intel chipsets though:
 82815ep
 82830
 82860
 E7500
 E7501
 E7505

No 845GL support though it seems.
