--disable-werror was able to workaround that much easier than editing the sources, thanks for the hint.
Fixing the warnings would be preferable. Patches appreciated
It is fixed on binutils trunk AFAIK; if you feel you must have your own fork of binutils, you can grab the relevant patch(es) there.
