 Linux starts UP then and uses 8259A interrupt controllers which have to
work due to the DOS compatibility. 

 If you know the interrupt and CPU configuration in advance, you can
develop a platform-specific backend -- see the code for SGI Visual
Workstation support (CONFIG_VISWS).
