This is one of the reasons the lightning bolt of the old official logo
looks the way it does.
The following features had been chosen to avoid any unfortunate visual
associations:
- close in design to the "high voltage warning" sign used in Germany
- a bigger distance between the two long strokes
- the long strokes are slightly angled and not parallel
- one of the long strokes is terminated in arrow form.


I do like Stefan's renderings of SOIC8 chips. They represent the current
form of hardware we're working with, and I would like to see them in
combination with the old official lightning bolt form. That would give
us a modern new logo and at the same time avoid any unfortunate visual
associations.


For easier comparison of the two bolt forms, I extracted them from the
original svg logos they were part of. No further
editing/clipping/rotation was done.
