No... it will simply tell the user "Could not create temporary directory."

How about we re-factor the mktemp check as such:

 which mktemp > /dev/null
 if [ "$?" != "0" ] ; then
 echo "mktemp not found"
 fi
 exit $EXIT_FAILURE
fi
