Use CONFIG_CBFS_PREFIX? Like:
cbfs-files-y += $(CONFIG_CBFS_PREFIX)/cmos.layout
$(CONFIG_CBFS_PREFIX)/cmos.layout-file := #and so on

updating things is still a "you better know what you're doing" operation
