how soon can we get rid of it? How close are we? it seems very close.

Rather than clutter up our code with this type of ugly stuff, and
spend the time on that, we're better off if we can kill newconfig
fast.

I would argue, since Patrick has taken us so far down the good road,
that we should not walk back up the bad one.

I would also argue we're better off if we kill newconfig today, even
if some boards are undone, because we know how to get them done ...
