Attached is the svn log for mods to vt8601 raminit.c.  Try pulling
some of these old versions and see if you can find one that works. 
Then you can diff it and we can see what changed.

Looking at the code I see many #defines that set memory speed and CL
timing.    You should check those out and see if they match your
board.
