Last I checked the Solo has an undocumented PNC chip.  But
it didn't need anything special to initialize the serial port.

Hmm.  Is this perhaps running at 9600 baud.

I believe the speed problem is that the XIP defines have not been
picked up in the new configuration stuff.  Anyway that is where I
would look first for speed problems.

There are enough hard codes in the code at the moment that are smp specifc
that we may have a bug there, that can explain the crash.
