When you say "external programmer" do you mean one of the programmers available in flashrom besides "internal" ? or do you mean some other hardware box or JTAG ?

IMHO it is unlikely that the flash of the BMC is shared with the normal
system. You could try to find the second flash chip on the board and
use an external programmer. That's what I would do if I could not RMA
it...
