Stefan mentioned that he knows several people who he has worked with in the area, and we're thinking it would be fun to get everyone together for a day of hacking on Coreboot and related projects such as Flashrom and SeaBIOS.
So, I'd like to invite everyone to Google's beautiful campus in Mountain View for a day of Coreboot hacking, board porting, BIOS flashing, etc. We'll set a tentative date for Saturday the 29th of this month from noon 'till 8pm. We also have FlexyICE ROMulators and Dediprog SPI flash programmers so folks can worry less about bricking their system. Maybe Stefan can whip up a tutorial for newbies if there is particular interest in a specific area.

Well for all those Europeans which might feel bit sad that California is "far far way" I have a following proposal.
Lets meet in Prague for a weekend in April/May. I think I could get some dormitory style accommodation and we can meet at university at the weekend.
Prague is not so distant:
Prague - Dresden - 153km Prague - Wien - 334km Prague - Nurnberg - 291km

These are really awesome initiatives! I wish I could come to both, but I guess it'll be Prague for me.
In any case, we also have a good opportunity to meet up during FOSDEM, and I hope that a lot of people will be there.
Last year we did the devroom and that pretty much kept everyone occupied full time. This year it is "only" an expo stand and a talk, but I think there will still not be a lot of time for hacking - so the hackathons are a wonderful idea.

I might come by car from Berlin, and could of course pick up some passengers along the way.

Good idea! I'm not yet 100% sure whether I will have time to come, but given that all attempts for a coreboot/flashrom developer meeting after the symposium in 2006 did not happen due to various constraints, I hope that we have more luck this time.

I think it's a bad idea to aim for having only a single person in the booth at any time. Disregarding the fact that it is really hard work to remain friendly, alert and inviting in an expo hall for 9 hours please consider what it is like without a chance to grab a meal or visit the rest room.
And of course if there are more people in the booth and more things going on then it looks much more interesting, than with just a single person around who would actually rather be hacking with the others in the basement.
As I have pointed out a couple of times, those of us who have been at LinuxTag showing off coreboot (including yourself) are not too many, and it really requires some effort. LinuxTag is an exhibition and not a hacking event, and I think everyone who has been there and helped out have always done a great job! But even so, we could use a lot more resources simply on our exhibition there.
Some hacking at FOSDEM would be nice, but I expect us to take care of immediate needs for our booth instead during that time.
Right, and LinuxTag is no different, in fact it is *strictly* an exhibition, and one with a rather professional aim at that. I think we would be dividing already scarce resources by having a developer meeting at the same time as the expo.
Then I would much rather visit Prague say the weekend after LinuxTag.

Peter,
you have summed up the challenges of an exhibition/conference very nicely and I fully agree. My hack room suggestion assumed that there would be some hack time before booth setup or after teardown, and the occassional 30-minute hack session, maybe once per day. Leaving one person alone to man the booth for extended periods of time is definitely not a nice thing to do.
That said, having an intense coordinated hack/review session via IRC and mail for one weekend may be a useful preparation or followup to the Prague meeting. IMHO quite a few things get stalled because our turnaround times are often pretty long, and switching the mind in/out of development mode takes some time which can't be used for development. (Well, that's what is killing my productivity if I only have ~1 hour spare time and spend lots of it getting familiar with the code again before I can respond to reviews.)

Hi everyone, I have finally confirmed a location :-) It's a medium-sized training/workshop room with several tables and space for a few dozen people with equipment. It is located in between N. Shoreline Blvd. and Rengstorff Ave. and is easily accessible from highway 101.
The address is: 1950 Charleston Rd. Mountain View, CA, 94043 Alamitos workshop / training room (1st floor, room 101, building 1950)
The workshop room, named "Alamitos," is located on the first floor of building 1950 and is adjacent to the visitors lobby located toward the center of the courtyard area. The addresses are printed above the lobby entrances, and I'll also have some signs posted to help people find the correct entrance (Look for the Coreboot Hare logohttp://www.coreboot.org/File:Coreboot_full_web.png ).

Are you people (from Europe and .. abroad) still interested for a coreboot hackathon in april/may in Prague? Today there are only 4 answers for the doodle poll started by Rudolph. By the way, Rudolph, do you think it is still possible for you to organise this event in Prague anytime soon or not? Do you need some help eventually? In general, for my part, I'm very interested for this kind of event, but unfortunately I don't have right now the time/resources to travel to America so doing it in Europe will be a good thing this time for me.. :-/

I think I can still do that. Current plan is to use a computer lab at university with preinstalled coreboot related toolchains etc.
As for the accommodation i think I can reserve some dormitory style.

As very preliminary I try to get some google money for google developers to get them to Prague even from US.
