thank you both for your advice. Uwe, I would post my laptop details etc but to get the SuperIO chip no. I imagine I would have to open the case etc. Normally this is no problem but I'd void the warranty unfortunately. All the other info I included in the last post.

Seems I'm a bit out of my depth with the main thrust of LinuxBIOS but I wish you all the best with the project.
