Wow, that's a blast from the past (like as in 2014, when I first got risc-v support in ...). As you can see, back then, qemu could not really support coreboot ROM images, so we had to tell qemu to run the elf, which was created from the old spike stuff.
I doubt we need say much, this is just bringing qemu for risc-v into line with all the other platforms.
