I've read posts about the RD1 that suggest its integrated flash device is low quality and it may take 10 or more flash attempts to get a good flash update to the RD1 flash device. As a result, many RD1 BIOS Savior users will flash the commercial BIOS image (or other known good BIOS image) into the RD1 integrated flash device as many times as needed to get an image that boots. Then use the original BIOS device to flash test BIOS image (usually LinuxBIOS images among this group), since the original BIOS device usually flashes OK on the first attempt. I've used the RD1 in the above fashion with great success on the Tyan S2885 mainboard. The same RD1 would not work on the nVidia CK8-04 CRB mainboard. I think the CK8-04 CRB requires a flash device that the RD1 does not support. However, the RD1 worked well as an "do nothing" adapter which allowed swapping the BIOS flash device between my flash burner and the mainboard without any wear to the mainboard's BIOS socket. BTW, my flash burner is an older Enhanced Willem Universal Programmer. I got mine for only $60 US over a year ago. I've seen it for less than $40 on eBay a few weeks ago. The newest model is going for about $50 US. It does a LinuxBIOS flash in about 5 minutes; not bad for a $60 burner. However, it does require changing DIP switches to match an image for each device it can program. [LinuxBIOS] x86_64: calibrate_delay_direct and apic id lift for BSP

andi, I tried to lift apic id in LinuxBIOS for all cpus after 0x10. When using MB with AMD8111, the jiffies was not moving. So it is locked at calibrate_delay_direct... but MB with Nvidia ck804, jiffies is moving. If I don't change BSP apic id ( keep it to 0), It changes.... I have no idea how the jiffies changes, there is another thread change it....? patch 04 was superseded by patch 6, but in any event, none of the patches took (they were assumed to be -r). Also, the other epia-m item (29) is in the tree, so I closed that. please, folks, if you are resolving these issues, set the status to resolved and sign it off in comments. Here is the rough path for using this tracker (we're still waiting on the doc) login to the issue tracker. create the issue describe the problem upload the file (x.diff) assign to somebody. somebody else should close the issue, so: - get somebody to review. - annoy us if we don't. to close - if it is global impact, scan carefully. take your time - if it is only one mobo, one person, the person who sent the diff, scan carefully but try to get it done soon. - apply the diff, if it succeeds commit and mark the issue resolved, with 'signed-off-by' in the remarks - if it fails mark it deferred and notify the submitter I am going to try nick barker's patch. It seems somebody is applying these and not following up? ron

Hello, I would like to use LinuxBIOS on an embedded Geode GX1 platform. The board is an Kontron ETX-mgx, and is has the following parts on board: * CPU: Geode GX1 266 MHz * Southbridge: CS5530A * Superio: Winbond W83977F: IDE, floppy, 2x serial, parallel port * Phoenix BIOS 4.0 in a Am29F040B 512kx8 flash chip (TSOP package) * 64 MB PCI 133 DIMM * Compact flash slot * USB controller (Compaq ZFMicor Chipset) * Ethernet: Davicom DM9102AE I want to use LinuxBIOS with FILO to boot a linux kernel from the IDE Compact Flash. My idea is to piggyback an empty flash chip on top of the BIOS flash chip, and then use a switch to select the original BIOS or a newly flashed one. I am new on this list, and would appreciate some help to get this project on the road! My question is: What would be the best way to get this started? Can I use LinuxBIOSv1 or LinuxBIOSv2? LinuxBIOSv2 seems newer, but it seems to lack support for the W83977F. Thanks for any help! Joep

With the numbers you provided this gets down to about 43 Megabytes per second, which is not too bad. I added some code to make 1. sb ht chain sit on bus 0 2. let HT chain end device use small unit id.. So We can make the bus num and device num to be same to system BIOS. It maybe useful to let use compare mptable/irqtable/acpi tables.... I will produce one patch after you apply issue36 and issue 37 to the public tree. YH

Sir, I am using freebios to load Linux on SC2200 (GEODE platform). I am using Bochs for the interrupt callback support. LinuxBIOS loads Bochs into the RAM and gives control to it Bochs in turn loads Linux. Linux kernel size is around 512 MB. Bochs is taking around 12 sec to load Linux which is unacceptable as per as system requirements. Bochs itself is too slow in executing the things. I observed that it is around 20 times slow than LinuxBIOS which is executing before Bochs. Please help me in fixing this problem. Thanks in advance Regards, Kalyan.

Hello. Current ADLO can not boot XP. Then, how about using freeldr as payload? You must know freeldr already, but if I would explain shortly, it is a clone of NTLDR, a boot loader of WindowsNT/2k/XP. And it is one of products of ReactOS project. Currently it can just boot ReactOS, which will be a clone of Windows itself, and can not boot genuine Windows. But plan to be able to boot guenuie one someday. Then, if once it becomes to be able to boot guenie Windows, how about using it as payload? if doing so, it is yet another way of booting Windows than ADLO. BTW, somebody help to work X on EPIA-M!. Why 0xc0000 data changes after boot? --- Okajima, Jun, Tokyo, Japan.
