The flash chip is soldered in the center of the bottom of the board, and cannot be flashed in-system, so flashing the board requires overriding the IFD permissions (grounding GPIO33 when powering the board on) or desoldering the chip. At that point, the ME firmware region can be completely removed (this will break fan control).
